How to Make Royal Icing Transfers
Create edible sugar decorations for all your Valentine's Day treats
If you’ve ever walked the baking isle of your favorite hobby store, you’ve probably noticed those adorable sugar decorations sold by theme or holiday. In a pinch I’ve bought a box or two…but did you know that you can easily make them yourself. Yep, I said easily!
In the world of confections, we call them Royal Icing Transfers. Simply put, a Transfer is Royal Icing that is piped as a design onto wax paper and left to dry. Once completely dry, these individual candy pieces make the perfect addition to your decorated cookies.
5 Easy Steps to Making Transfers
Choose a design. Hearts, Shamrocks, Eyes…
Search online, copy and paste design onto a blank document and print. Note: If you search “heart transfer sheet” you’ll likely find one already created and ready to print. Additionally, Etsy is a great resource for paid transfer sheets.
Lay design paper on flat surface or tray. Cover with wax paper.
Pipe Royal Icing in desired color over the template design. Repeat until you have as many candies piped that you need.
Let dry overnight. Remove with flat knife or spatula. Use on cookies or any special treat.
Note: No need to freeze or store in fridge. Once dry, store in an airtight container. These little candies have a long shelf life.
